West Davidson Food Pantry, Least of These Ministries Inc.
Pantry #10174
The West Davidson Food Pantry was established by a group of churches in the West Davidson Area in the summer of 2008 with the goal of helping feed and clothe people in the West Davidson Area who had hit difficult financial situations and who needed additional help to make it through each month. We now have twelve churches participating in this ministry. Each month we have serve 120 families. Approximately 60 clients families who have retired or disabled people on fixed incomes are served on a continuous monthly basis. An additional 60 families are served on a three-on, three-off month rotation in which they received help for three months and then rotate off the list and are replaced by new clients for a three month period. All clients may re-apply after being off the list for three months if their needs are still great enough to qualify. Recipients are picked on a needs basis with preference given to the elderly, disabled, and people with children living at home, followed by a preference given to families facing financial difficulties for the first time.
We have a Clothing Closet which distributes free clothing and home goods to those in need in our community.
In 2012, we expanded our coverage area to include the entire 27295 and 27299 zip codes.
We seek and receive support from the area schools, civic clubs, and individuals in addition to the churches that support us on a regular schedule.
We continue weekly to serve Reeds, Tyro, and Churchland Elementary school students that are in need of food for home each weekend. We provide those students with snacks and meals that will help them get through each weekend.
We also work with the guidance counselors from all five of our local schools and have provided a place for the community Angel Tree Ministry to be conducted. Through this service we are helping children to receive a Christmas that would not have had any.
We are also providing up to 300 free Christmas meals to not only our regular clients, but to other families that are in need in the schools system.

ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
