Western Carolina Rescue Ministries

Western Carolina Rescue Ministries (WCRM) exists to serve the homeless, poor and addicted populations of Western North Carolina. As a nondenominational ministry, we meet people in crisis, focus on helping them at the point of their need, and help them until they can move forward. Currently, WCRM serves approximately 250 meals per day. Meals are served 365 days a year. We also provide clothing and medical care to anyone who needs them. Overnight shelter is available for men, women and children, and food boxes are delivered weekly to families facing food insecurity. Long-term programs include a men's residential recovery program, and a mother and infant / child residential recovery program. All programs and services are offered free of charge to anyone in need, and exist to meet demonstrated needs in the community.

ProducePedia

ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!

State Cooperative Extension Web Sites

The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
